Top 10 strategies for managing cabbage stem flea beetle (CSFB) in oilseed rape (Draft)
9. Post harvest cultivation
- An initial study by NIAB showed that in certain circumstances, CSFB are still emerging from the soil after harvest and in this situation, shallow cultivations of the previous OSR crop stubble can significantly reduce their number.
- Further studies are being conducted to try to ascertain when high levels of emergence at this timing is likely.
- Note that there some concerns that such a cultivation may have a negative impact on beneficial insects and predator species. It will also limit the potential for the use of volunteers as trap crops.
