6. Park the pyrethroids
- Pyrethroid resistance in CSFB is widespread and severe in England so applications of pyrethroid sprays are unlikely to be effective and may increase CSFB resistance.
- Resistance is less severe in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, although there is evidence of it being an increasing issue in the Scottish Borders. Local testing of pyrethroid resistance should be considered.
- Pyrethroids can harm beneficial insects, (SUCH AS XXXX and YYYY) meaning spraying may be counterproductive and make the situation worse –
- Winter stem weevil also resistant to pyrethroids so avoid spraying where WSW is an issue.
